PS queried when the entry forms for ‘run the square’ would be available. SH confirmed by the end of May 2018.

Message previously circulated to members on 02/04/2018 to advise that Russell Attfield (RA) will be talking about the proposed improvements to the memorial playing field pavilion and he is looking to get support from sports club for the proposals and has circulated a flyer round the village. Those who don’t use it were requested to visit the site, have a look and see if you could use it, RA is keen to hear from those individuals. PH queried if negative comments are also captured, RA confirmed that these are captured. PM queried if there was deadline for the submission but RA not aware if there is one. Badminton England seeking to get the courses in the area but the sticking point is the lack of coaches, willing parents but because we are a premier club with Badminton England we cannot just have them help, we need the actual courses. There are 30-35 regular adults coming every week, thanks expressed to HAMSA for the £100 grant which went to purchasing of four new nets at old hall school and feeding tubes which current (five) coaches can use to quickly feed children along with three agility ladders.

Stephen mentioned new club kit at the last meeting and he demonstrated the new top to the members present. Club ride out this morning to Bury St Edmunds (BSE), one of the club members from BSE asked where they got the kit from so has received positive feedback. Café Cadence and Howards are shirt sponsors. Weather has caused issues but club have continued to ride every Sunday and Tuesday. Successful membership boost with 4/5 new members joining, couple of people who dropped out came out on Sunday and are likely to re-join so the club is thriving. Anyone who is interested in joining to let Stephen know, committee meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night. Someone from the club is also setting up beginner rides, 10/15 miles on a Tuesday and they will be advertising soon and he hopes this will encourage those who are nervous to join in.
PH queried if there were any plans to reinstate 30/60? Stephen advised that they did have more members back then and need stewards etc. to facilitate but it is still on the agenda and not forgotten.
DW highlighted Norfolk cycling events (norfolkcyclingevents.co.uk) – Crusaders host event on 5th August between 7am until 5pm – various distances for beginners up to 50 miles. Hethersett Athletic Football Club – Report by Wayne Johnson
Wayne Johnson (WJ) updated that last year they lost some members, including their Treasurer so keen to look for a replacement and modernise some of their financial practices, they are struggling as they do not have enough volunteers. Currently there are nine youth teams and six adult teams but they will lose three at end of season (under 19’s) and the under 16s are coming to an end. Adult element not so well supported, Saturday team does have aspirations to play at a higher level.
Saturday morning club trains at Bowthorpe with football coaching sessions for over 130 children. They have a thriving youth section but don’t have a home as a football club; they play at Little Melton, High School, Memorial Playing Field and train at Bowthorpe.
Friday evening/Saturday morning ‘home needed’ for getting all of the children together and parents – they do not have that type of base and desperately need one. PH queried whether the Pavilion/Memorial Field could cope with that number of children and WJ advised that this was a possibility. PH made reference to home matches – if the facilities were good enough on the memorial playing field could they handle the matches? WJ felt that the coaching/training would be the better option and more important for a home from a training point of view.
Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club – Report by Mark Worley
Mark Worley (MW) advised that the £100 grant will be going towards Ladies cricket team and buying their kit. Some girls/ladies playing on Saturday teams occasionally. Signed up to the All-stars English Cricket Board (ECB) 5/8 year old cricket offering – tried last year but not enough members but plenty for this season which is positive.
MW advised that the youth of the club would be the future (9 to 17 year olds and has grown over the last few years) – only soft ball at present but gives them an element of involvement in cricket; ECB countrywide initiative.
Ladies cricket is starting on Thursday 3rd May with a soft ball event with prosecco from 6pm. This will be an opportunity to introduce people who have not played before. Junior training night is also on the Thursday, the Mums have said they would like to give it a go hence tying in the date.
The club has joined South Norfolk league and have schedule of fixtures for the summer with sponsorship from Park Farm with logo shirts.
Great Melton Cricket Club – Report by Maxine Rushden
Maxine Rushden (MR) updated that the ladies training starts on Thursday and juniors on Friday. Expecting over 100 juniors on a Friday between years 2 and 8 (6 to 13) with this being always well attended, last year had a waiting list but trying to manage it every year. Space is limited so has to be managed with large numbers. Under 13, Under 11 and Under 9 teams this year and keeps on growing.
MR also advised that they have new nets (two lane net project) opened at the club and a social event; beer festival is scheduled for 24/06/2018.

PS confirmed that the Memorial Field Trustees are responsible for the Playing Field – ref raising awareness and promotion. Does not directly involve both the HAMSA cricket clubs.
Crusaders Rugby Club – Report by David Williams
DW updated members that of the last six games, they had won four, drawn one and lost one and pleased with how they have finished the season.

DW also highlighted between the 20th to 22nd July there will be a beer festival, camping available for £20 for the weekend, £15 for overnight (motorhome tents,). There will be music on the Friday and Saturday from 6pm to midnight; price will be £3 per day ticket.
Club playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays – play touch rugby, starting walking rugby for people wanting to get fit from 6.30 until 9 – and the bar is open.
Clubhouse changing rooms are being reorganised – grant put in to pay for change, at present only have three changing rooms. DW keen to dispel rumours about selling the land to housing developers. The planning permission only relates to grant changes i.e. changing rooms.
17/18 year olds play every Sunday, well attended every week (200/300 people every Sunday) Looking forward to starting the next season and hope to continue to grow as a club. Number of people playing the sport is reducing. Historically then had put out 5/6 sides every week but now 2/3 sides every week if they are lucky.

New Clubs –
Petanque – this weekend they are weeding the area, comments have been passed on from the last meeting regarding the state of the playing area. Richard is keen to make progress and is getting a working party together.
SH made reference to a promotion called ‘ping’ which is an initiative run by England Table Tennis Association (ETTA). South Norfolk putting in a table tennis table at suitable venue, permanent concrete table (possibly this could be in the memorial field). ETTA will provide/supply bats and balls, but need member of Trustee Board to supervise. BJ queried why we could not have a general sports day on the same day as the ‘Run the Square’ event and also utilise the memorial playing field. BJ also stated that her mother could arrange for the school (next to the memorial playing field) to be opened on the 8th July.
PS provided an update on the synthetic square going in on the memorial playing field. Norfolk Cricket Board have approached Trustees of Memorial Playing Field, and as a result a synthetic strip where people can play cricket can be put down, companies can also use it for competitions.
RFU decided which league and reorganised everything so not sure of placings for next year.
DW updated members on the social event being planned for 02/06/2018 which is a dance and will cost £25 per head or £200 for a table of 10. DW advised that last year 120 people attended. DW circulated flyers to members of the event.

An email has been circulated to all trustees and is on the agenda for the next meeting. Mel Parker’s details will be passed on to South Norfolk to discuss/progress.

Any Other Business
PH queried if anyone was planning any fireworks; DW said that the Crusaders Rugby Club were planning their fireworks event. This will be discussed at the AGM. Advertising will be in the usual places (Tesco, local butchers); conversation ensued about other possible sources of advertising. RP suggested getting the schools to assist with flyers being taken home by children in their school bags. PH suggested banners on the village green or at the end of New Road to promote village events.
PH talked about the opportunity to come and try sports at the playing field and resurrecting this. BJ discussed with RP about bringing different clubs and fitness people together to make villagers aware of what is available. BJ said she was happy to help organise but Ryan wanting to use their own staff for the ‘Run the Square’ event. BJ said she would help create the event and felt this was a great opportunity for kids and adults to get active. (2012/13 events were done with Active Norfolk). BJ queried why we could not have a general sports day on the same day as the ‘Run the Square’ event and also utilise the memorial playing field. BJ also stated that her mother could arrange for the school (next to the memorial playing field) to be opened on the 8th July. ACTION: SL to email members to see if any clubs interested in getting involved in broadening the event on the 08/07/2018 with additional activities.
SH made reference to the running club and whether HAMSA could co-fund with Active Norfolk Paul Evans for the six week sessions leading up the ‘Run the Square’ event. ACTION: PS to contact Paul Evans to discuss.
Date and venue of next meeting confirmed as:
Wednesday, 4th July 2018 at 7.30pm in the Ellingham Suite, Park Farm Hotel, Hethersett.
