Minutes of a meeting of Hethersett and the Meltons' Sports Association held at Park Farm Hotel on October 11th, 2017.
Apologies for Absence and Introductions:
There were nine members present. Apologies were received from: Bobby Dowling (BD), David Bills (BD), Jackie Sutton (JS), Wayne Johnson (WJ), Mike Stark (MS), Gregg Rowland (GR), Russell Attfield (RA), Gary Wyatt (GW) and Patricia Mills (PM). Those present introduced themselves and Stephen Andrew (SA) was welcomed as the new chairman of Hethersett Velo Club.

Matters Arising

Treasurer's Report
Shane Hull (SH) reported that four grants have been awarded this year. The current balance stands at £724.35. SH has produced an up to date balance sheet which the chairman will circulate.
Run the Square 2018
A provisional date of Sunday 8th July has been set. SH will update members on progress at future meetings.
Memorial Playing Field Pavilion/S106 Grant Funding
RA is now project managing the proposed expansion and improvements to the pavilion and a number of grants are being applied for. The trustees will be putting forward an application to receive money from the village S106 money. JS sent an e-mail to the meeting outlining the timescale for applications to the parish council. The terms of reference for applications will be agreed by the parish council in October. Applications for grants under the S106 money should be lodged with the parish clerk Ian Weetman.

Sports Clubs/Groups Updates
Hethersett Olympic Legacy Sports Complex (HOLSC)
SH updated members on funding availability for all weather facilities at Hethersett Academy with a view that this will not be possible at the present time.
Hethersett Croquet Club
Peter Hoult (PH) reported on a successful season that is now drawing to a close.
Hethersett Netball Club
Helen Lawn (HL) reported that one of the adult sides has won promotion and that the junior section is going well. The club is now using the Hethersett Academy Sports Hall.
Hethersett Badminton Club
PH reported on a very successful junior set-up with two groups of 25 youngsters being coached with a waiting list also being set-up. The club also has 35 adult members.
Hethersett Running Group
Peter Steward (PS) reported that the summer coaching sessions have now stopped, but it is hoped that they will begin again in the spring leading up to the village funrun
Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway
Mel Perkins (MP) reported that the 2017 season is drawing to a close. It has been a successful year for the club with over 60 riders taking part, 25% of those taking part being female. The club has riders aged from five to 62. The Aviva Community Grant will be used to purchase equipment. The first team had finished fourth in the South East League with the second team finishing runners-up. Senior club members are planning a trip to Poland in 2018 for the European club championships. The club has achieved clubmark status and is looking for a male welfare officer. MP expressed a wish to foster good relations with the newly re-constituted Hethersett and Wymondham Velo Club.
Hethersett Memorial Playing Field Trust
Two new litter bins have been placed on the Memorial, courtesey of the parish council. Graffiti has been removed from the pavilion and anti climbing paint put on the container. Vandalism has been a problem this year but trustees are working with Norfolk Police to combat this.
Hethersett and Wymondham Velo Club
SA reported on the re-branding of the club and its new name to incorporate Wymondham. Tuesday evening club runs will be coming to an end as the nights draw in but the Sunday rides of 40-45 miles will continue. The club's ethos is that nobody gets left behind and this has helped riders to gain in confidence. The club has a "vast array" of refreshment stops. New members are welcome and the club is looking to have new kit available in the near future.
Hethersett Dementia Group
The dementia cafe continues to meet on the third Tuesday of each month in Hethersett Methodist Church Hall from 10 am to midday.
Hethersett Jubilee Youth Club
Leslie Dale (LD) update members on club matters with the new youth leader proving a success. More volunteers are needed, including a treasurer. There are now Zumba classes on Friday evenings.
Hethersett Athletic Football Club
PS reported on the new season with the club running teams at all ages from six to veterans.
Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club
PS reported on a successful 2017 season that has seen many of the club's youth players pushing up into adult teams. Just under 100 youngsters have taken part in training evenings and the club is looking to push forward in the 2018 season.
Crusaders Rugby Club
Maurice Durrant (MD) reported that the club's first team finished fourth in its league last season, but the second team struggled. The club is catering for youth players from the age of under-five to 15. Leagues have been re-drawn to cut down on travelling distances. The club has spent £12,000 on upgrading floodlights and knocking four changing rooms into two with a view to obtaining planning permission to provide showers and toilet facilities. The club will be holding a fireworks evening on November 4th. It may be affected by the laying of cables by Dong Energy as part of their windfarm infrastructure.
Hethersett Methodist Table Tennis
This continues on Friday evenings and is managing to pay its way.
Rowan House
Rachel Pailes (RP) reported on two years of Rowan House. It is looking to support a new start-up business in the health sector in the new year and is looking for a company/group wanting to take part. Opening Rowan House for the Round the Square event had helped raise awareness of the centre and RP is hoping for another tie up with Hethersett Social Club for the 2018 event. SH said Rowan House's involvement helped to complement the event and will be liaising with RP early in the new year.
Heart of Hethersett Group
This has widened its remit to include those suffering from anxiety and depression as well as those bereaved. It meets every other Tuesday from 5.30 to 6.30 at Woodcote Sheltered Housing Complex in Firs Road and is an informal group with the occasional speaker. PS asked sports clubs/groups to make their members aware of Heart of Hethersett.
New Clubs
PS has been approached by Peter Davis (PD) with regards to starting a shuffleboard group in Hethersett and holding one or two come and try events in the New Year. Association members agreed to support this idea.
South Norfolk Council
LD updated members on improvements to drainage systems in the village following extensive flooding in the summer. LD also has grant money available. He also mentioned the village Christmas Market which this year will take place at the Methodist Church on December 1st with stalls available to any HAMSA members who wished to promote their clubs/organisations.

PH asked about the possibility of another clubs/societies day in the future.
