Minutes of meeting of Hethersett and Meltons Sports Association held at Park Farm Hotel, Hethersett, May 14th 2012
Apologies

Round Table Introductions
There were 11 present – Peter Steward (chair), Shane Hull (treasurer), Peter Hoult (Sec), Mel Perkins, Fiona Whiting, Helen Lawn, Toni Horsfield , Alex Bond, Steve Walker, Darren Neale, Joe Edwards. All introduced themselves individually.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
These had been circulated and were taken as read.
Treasurer’s Report
Shane reported that the bank account currently contains £122. He is collecting annual subscriptions.
Appointment of New Secretary
Peter Hoult continued to take minutes of the meeting in the absence of a secretary. Peter agreed to take on the position of secretary on a more permanent basis.
Hethersett and the Meltons – The success story updates
Olympic Weekend
Shane reported on the upcoming Olympic Weekend – covering Sport in the Park, Run the Square, ladies 5 a side soccer, also a new addition – a Flower Festival. There will be a visit at the swimming marathon by paralympic swimmer Oliver James
Olympic Flame
Shane outlined the plans for the visit of the Olympic Flame to the high school on July 5th. There will be a short time between 0630 and 0637 for photographs to be taken of the flame. This will be arranged on the back field of the high school. There will be a peal of bells sounding from St Remigius church to celebrate the visit of the flame
Social Running Club
This club was set up by Active Norfolk in association with Hethersett and the Meltons Sports Association four weeks ago with the considerable support and assistance of Olympic athlete Paul Evans. Initially set to run every Thursday evening for 10 weeks. The group caters for runners of all abilities and so far there have been around 35 – 37 runners involved each week. It is hoped to carry the club on after the probationary 10 weeks are up. Maria Alborough offered to continue the running coaching from where Paul Evans leaves off.
Hethersett Hawks
Mel reported the international speedway tournament against Poland on 31st July is in doubt, but will be able to update the association at its next meeting.
Pledge to Fitness
Fiona and Shane reported on the January pledge to fitness which had seen more people pledge at Hethersett than in any other single day event in the county. A pledge wall is still on display at Woodside School
Come and Try Sports Event
This will be held on Wednesday 30th May from 1800 until 2100. There will be a number of sports available to try including archery, football, petanque, cricket, athletics and bowls. There will also be a cycle speedway grand prix that evening and the cycle speedway club has offered to do teas and coffees.
Hethersett Open Spaces Group
Mel Perkins underlined the setting up of an open spaces group in Hethersett and two sponsored workshops that had looked at the provision of open spaces with particular reference on the Memorial Playing Field.
Hethersett Memorial Playing Field Trust
Peter H reported on improvements made to the Memorial Field including the official opening of new play equipment and plans for the future.
South Norfolk village Games 2012
Peter S listed the number of activities being represented at the village games. It is hoped that members of the sports clubs represented by HaMSA will be able to produce teams and individuals to compete in all of them. After the success of 2011 it is assumed that Hethersett will be seen as the team to beat!
Peter will be in touch with various clubs in order to organise teams.
Hethersett 30/60 Event
In the absence of Martin Anderton, Peter H reported on the success of the first event and stated that Martin is already planning to repeat it next year.
Hethersett Athletic FC Plans
Peter S spoke of the attempts by Hethersett Athletic Football Club to acquire land for their own stadium, either through new development coming to the village or from sourcing a separate piece of land
Netball Club
The association once again affirmed its support to find training facilities within the villages.
Attracting New Members
It was disappointing to see a lack of school representatives again and Peter S agreed to take this up. He also urged those present to pass the word on about the association to try and attract more people to attend meetings
Any Other Business
Thanks were expressed to Richard Bond and Park Farm for the use of their facilities.
It was agreed that in 2013 the priorities of the association should be:
Peter S explained that Active Norfolk is putting together a jigsaw of what sport means to South Norfolk. Hethersett and the Meltons has a piece to fill in with photographs, press cuttings and artwork. Peter will enlist the help of local artist Marian Watt.
Fitness Express agreed to put up posters of coming events and also to promote the Association on its information boards.
The meeting had a short discussion regarding the small piece of unused land near the village hall. This will be included in next year’s discussion on facilities.
