The road closure order has been approved for one hour from 10.45 a.m with the event starting at 11 a.m. Paul Evans will once again lead the warm-up and the honorary starter will be Mel Perkins MBE in what is a special Golden Jubilee Year for Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club which he founded in 1966. MP is hoping to get a team of Hawks riders to lead off the run with flags and banners. The entry form for run the square will be available on the village web site at www.hethersett.or.uk. Crusaders Rugby Club is being contacted to supply marshals for the event. It was felt that the marshals last year were too young to have the necessary authority.
There are also plans for the pre-race inter denominational church service to be held.
RP offered the services of professionals from Rowan House to help with medical matters on the day.
Applications for Grants
There were no new applications for grants. Finance is still available for start up or existing groups.

Hethersett Velo Club
There was no representation from the club, but it continues to thrive
Hethersett Tennis Club/Tennis Coaching
The meeting welcomed tennis coach Stuart Silvester who outlined plans for possible coaching sessions in the village. This could be tied up with a new tennis club. Stuart is currently contacting local schools re facilities. The sports association would back any efforts to start a club in the village and the chairman will liaise with Stuart in an attempt to take the matter forward.
Hethersett Croquet Club
The club is preparing for its new season which opens shortly. The lawns are ready and there are about 20 members. A new hedge has been planted through volunteers to act as a break between the lawns and football pitches on Hethersett Memorial Playing Field.
Hethersett Netball Club
HL sent in a report in her absence. The adult netball section has entered two teams in the Norwich Outdoor Summer League – one in Division Four and one in Division Five. A successful quiz night raised about £680 to be divided between the club and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The junior section enjoyed two tournaments – one indoor and one outdoor at the UEA - arranged by the Netball Development Officer. It was a great experience for the girls to play against other junior clubs. There is a slight break in training at the moment as many of the players are involved in the coming dance show being put on at Norwich Theatre Royal by the Yvonne School of Dance. Training will re-start in May.
Skateboard Facilities
The skateboard park has now been dismantled following concerns about the safety of the equipment. Nobody had come forward to take on the organisation of the facilities or to set-up a bona fide club and it was agreed that the item should be taken off future agendas.

The club was unrepresented. It will be holding an open day on April 16th and is open for new members.

A special club night is being held on April 19th to mark the exact date 50 years ago that Hawks started. Hawks will be riding in the European Championships in Poland in May, the first time the club has competed abroad.
Hethersett Memorial Playing Field Trust
MP and PH reported on the latest enhancements to the field. The trustees are still awaiting news of grant applications with regards to the planned improvements to the pavilion. Planning permission runs out in the summer, but it is hoped to start basic work by then. Gates have been put in place at the entrance to the field and extra matting is being purchased for the kick wall area which has proved very popular. One of the see- saws in the children’s play area is damaged (through age rather than vandalism) and has been “roped off.” Overall the field continues to be in good condition.
Norfolk Village Games 2016
Two teams took part in an indoor rounders event at the end of January and a team is entered in the netball tournament on April 24th. County finals of the main competition are on July 10th at the UEA Sportspark.

PH is continuing to monitor walking football and MP said that Hethersett Athletic would be happy to adopt a group providing somebody came forward to organise it.
Proposed Fireworks Event
Nothing has been taken forward on this matter, but Crusaders Rugby Club will be asked if they are still in favour of hosting an event.
Marketing and Promotion of the Association
PS updated the meeting on the four proposed sports-related publications. He has had a quote for 500 copies of a 64 page publication, which will cost approx £1,600. It would be planned to sell the publications for £4 with each book being self financing. Work has already started on the History of Hethersett Hawks and it is hoped to have this ready for publication by the summer. This would be followed by a history of Hethersett Athletic Football Club to mark its 25th anniversary, a history of Hethersett’s sporting legacy and an updated history of Hethersett Cricket Club. PS will also work on promotional material for the sports association and asked those present to pass on information in an attempt to attract more people to attend meetings.
Any Other Business
