Run the Square
SH updated members on the coming Run the Square event on Sunday, July 16th - the eighth running of the event which goes back to 2010.
This year's event would also encompass a family fun day based around Rowan House and Hethersett Social Club. Flyers were being distributed throughout the village. Roads will be closed between 10.45 am and 11.45 am and police will be supported by marshals from Crusaders Rugby Club and other organisations such as Hethersett Academy. St John's Ambulance will also be in attendance and Norfolk Olympian Paul Evans will conduct the warm up. Hethersett Academy Principal Gareth Stevens will be the honorary starter. Entry forms are available in Hethersett Library, Rowan House, Hethersett Social Club and on the village web site. Entry fees will be £3 for adults and £1.50 for Under-16s. All finishers will be given a commemorative medal and a raffle ticket for prizes donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets will be sold to spectators.
Proceeds from the funday will go to Hethersett Dementia Group. Rowan House will host family activities, Tots Town and workshops (see below). The Social Club will also hold family events through the afternoon.
Thanks to a grant from South Norfolk Council, a new race arch has been purchased which will contain the names of event sponsors. SH said it was his intention to continue organising the run as a fun event and not as a serious race. He was pleased to say that over the seven years, everybody taking part has finished the course.
RP gave her apologies but sent in the report below with regards to the fun run:
Memorial Playing Field Pavilion Update
Russell Attfield has been co-opted onto the playing field trustees and is working with a London-based company on a feasibility study for the proposed new pavilion. The cost of this is being underwritten by Hethersett Athletic Football Club.
The trustees will be applying for Section 106 money from new development in the village.
MP reported on a spate of vandalism which had seen graffiti painted on the door and side walls of the pavilion. The ladies toilet has sprung a leak following the recent heavy rain.
There is still room for a number of new trustees and MS expressed an interest. PH asked about the possibility of using the existing Woodside School building as a public community facility when a new school is built in the next two years. Members thought it unlikely that the county council would allow the building to be used for this purpose and it is more likely the site would be developed for housing.
Application for Grants
There were a number of applications for grants:
Hethersett Tennis
An application from qualified coach Stuart Silvester for a contribution towards the cost of courts at Old Hall School to allow him to continue coaching youngsters throughout the school holidays. The proposal is to run sessions on Wednesdays from 26th July to 30th August with the exception of August 2nd. These sessions would be for Years Three to Four from 9 to 10.30 am and Years Five to Six from 10.30 until midday. The cost of the hire of two courts for these sessions will be £210. Stuart would then open up the sessions to younger pupils from Woodside School and would be interested in running an adult session one evening a week throughout the summer. It was agreed that PS would contact Stuart to discuss the possibility of long term tennis in the village with the possibility of using courts at Hethersett Academy administered by South Norfolk Council and also to bring to his attention the chance of applying for a Go For It Grant of £300.

RP gave her apologies but sent in the report below with regards to the fun run:
- Plans are all in place for the event which will run straight after the race.
- We are hoping to entice people round to Rowan House after the event by giving all race finishers a 'Prize Draw' ticket on completion (and sold to spectators and others before the event or during the race - proceeds to Hethersett Dementia Cafe), which will be held straight after the race at Rowan House - we have manged to get our hands on some lovely prizes from local businesses which we are acknowledging on Facebook. We will be directing people round to the back of Rowan House after the race, where Tesco's have donated us some money to provide refreshments. We will be looking to have a PA system so if anyone would like to volunteer to draw the prize we would appreciate the support.
- Straight after this our workshops will start taking place as will all the other activities such as; Free Tots Town (on the go) session, FREE family Yoga, A kids and family relaxation class, a family mindfulness session, our therapists offering taster treatments, the Police and Fire will be there and some FREE dance classes. At the social club there will be local stalls, a bouncy castle, bowling sessions and BBQ. We will be opening our back fence so that there is access between us and the social club and are really hoping for good weather and for lots of families to get involved.
- We haven't had contact from any HaMSA members but understand it was a bit short notice but unless it is a complete disaster we would happily run again now we have a format.
- We and the social club are still giving out application forms and will take entrance fees. If anyone would like a poster or could take some flyers please do pop into Rowan House to pick some up.
